Key Cutting
We have two key cutting machines, one for mortice keys and one for cylinder keys. We also have an extensive selection of the more popular type of mortice and cylinder key blanks. There are two designated key cutters here and providing one of them is available and we have the key blank, we will cut your keys while you wait. We endeavour to cut every key accurately so they work.
No keys can be guaranteed to work without the lock being present. Of cource in reality unless it is a padlock that the key is being cut for, locks can not be produced at the time of key being cut. Key failures can occur and customers can always bring these keys back. We are key cutters and not lock smiths.
We generally use JMA key blanks and are very often able to order non stocked keys quickly provided we can identify them.
Mortice keys are best described as the old traditional style of key used
in sash locks let into the edge of wooden doors. They can be also found
on surface mounted rim and deadlocks, safes and some padlocks. We
always recommend trying newly cut keys from both sides of locks because
some times keys will only work from one side. There would be nothing
worst than being locked in, or locked out. Brand name associated with
mortice locks are Chubb, Union, Era, Legge and Yale.
The other style of key is the Cylinder Key. This type of key is more commonly used on upvc doors, padlocks, lockers, ignitions on vehicles, and control boxes on plants and machinery. The cylinder being the metal cone in which lock pins are housed, with the key being inserted in one end. We are not able to cut modern vehicle key as they have transponders and we do not have the relevant keys or programmer. Some older vehicle keys can be cut, but these are to order. We stock cylinder key blanks for Yale, Union, Abus, Gege, Mila, Corbin, Chavo, ISEO, Master, Asec, Squire, L & F, and Ronis.
